For the longest time I resisted the temptation to share scanned magazines, comics, etc. It was mainly due to one incident where I labored and slaved over an old Vampirella magazine, scanning it to perfection..... only to find it had already been scanned (on Zen Tiger' blog) and I'd basically wasted hours of my day for nothing.
Then I came to my senses. Many of these magazines and comics are not going to exist much longer - their paper is faded and crumbling, lost to the traces of time. That is unless folks start uploading them. Even if Zen Tiger (or anyone else for that matter) has a duplicate, it doesn't matter. The more the better. It's all about vintage preservation, baby.
Now, if some company plans to re-release their mags on Amazon or something, and these little blogs are putting a ding in their sales, by all means - they shall be removed. If the purpose is preservation, a return to the market eliminates the need for us bloggers to keep the flame alive.
And, yes, it does cost money to put these magazines on Rapidshare to share with my readership. However, I always put the money I earn from Retrospace's advertising back into Retrospace via accounts in Rapidshare, Flickr, Usenet, etc.
