I've been wanting to make one of these moss wreaths since I saw Mandy of Mood Girl Projects' version last year in a bunch of link parties. Pottery Barn had a version of it last year, but I actually like the thinner homemade version better (plus at a 40$ savings I don't think there's even a debate).
Believe it or not but I made mine during two commercial breaks while watching House on TV. Seriously, this is a 10 minute craft. Ummm yeah, that's my kind of project.
I adore how it turned out and in attempt to have fun decorations for all the different holidays and seasons without going crazy constantly putting up and taking down decor I'm planning on using this for both St. Patti's day with the green ribbon (as shown) and then swapping out the green ribbon for a nice purple one for Easter. And for T's birthday party in a couple weeks I'm going to add some paper butterflies. I'm excited.
What You Need
- foam wreath (I found mine at the dollar store)
- sheet of moss or loose moss (I used a 40% off coupon for the sheet but if you're up for more mess and work you can find loose moss at the dollar store)
- glue gun
- ribbon
Cut the sheet into about 4 strips.
Start wrapping the strip around the wreath form gluing where needed to make it tight and flush to the foam. I went with the sheet route since I thought it would be faster and cleaner. Well it still made a mess but it was super fast. If you can't find the sheet or if you want to save a couple bucks you can just glue and stick the loose moss on but this will take a bit longer and of course you'll have to deal with the annoyance of sticking stuff that comes off to hot glue (you know all those strings of glue, moss stuck to your fingers and touching the hot glue). I really recommend the sheet it was SO speedy and with a coupon it was only around 5$.
Clip points in your ribbon if desired, hang it where you want and enjoy.
This would be super cute inside or out. Mine's inside but the moss totally freaks my husband out being inside so he'd prefer to banish it to the outdoors. He said all the pictures on the package shows it on outside things and it's alive and of course dirty. Bwahahaha, is it alive? Luckily for me I think he's forgotten all about it since his initial reaction.
