Mash-Up: Doctor Who / Peanuts
"Inspired by this, I decided to do a Charles Schulz treatment of the 11th Doctor and his companions."
Things can get complicated when it comes to Wibbly-Wobbly, Timey-Wimey-stuff. The universe is full of what ifs, impossibilities, and paradoxes. So, what if Charles Shulz had been called upon to write a season of Doctor Who? Instead of a TV series, we might have gotten a comic strip or a cartoon that looked a bit like this. Thanks to artist Larry Wentzel, we can now imagine what they might have looked like.
I always thought there was something sinister about the Peanuts. I mean, what's up with those sounds the adults make? It's like the TARDIS stopped providing psychic translations. And why are there so many kids running around unsupervised? What did those kids do to all of the adults?
Dance like nobody's watching, Lucy, because those are the only times when you can!I imagine after the 11th Doctor was put in the Pandorica, the villains broke out into a little celebratory dance. Apologies to Charles Schulz and the Peanuts characters.
Sculpture: Doctor Who Symbols
These etched PCB Time Lord symbols were made by George Hadley, who was inspired by the Gallifreyan artwork used on the artifacts and relics on Doctor Who. (Most recently seen on the mysterious baby cradle in the episode "A Good Man Goes to War") Hadley writes:
The main good time-traveling race in the show is called the Time Lords that live on the planet Gallifrey. The Gallifreyan artwork used on the artifacts and relics of the Time Lord race is some of my favorite, so I set out to recreate some of the artwork, using PCB etching as a medium.
Based off of tibots.deviantart.com/art/Time-Lord-seal-pattern-177133429 by deviantart user tibots. This one involved lots of fine details, so it's not perfect, but it still turned out very well :-)
Video: SNES Style Doctor Who Intro
SNES-ized Doctor Who theme by Doctor Octoroc
Download the track here.
A Super Nintendo style recreation of the newest "Doctor Who" intro sequence. I arranged the track in FL Studio using SNES soundfonts from Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy IV and F-Zero. If you're wondering how I got that wizzing sound in the beginning, it was a combination of "Lavos" sound effects from Crono Trigger :-)

Valentine’s Day Doctor Who DALEK cookies by Jenny Burgesse
Google's Art Project may allow you to visit London's National Gallery and Florence's Uffizi Gallery, but if you want to gaze at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel from your living room, you'll have to head to the Vatican's website. There, you'll be able to spend your whole afternoon staring at Michelangelo's masterpiece, rendered in a beautiful, high-resolution panorama. Your virtual visit will also be serenaded by choral music, which is more pleasant than listening to obnoxious tourists and clicking cameras, anyway.
"I am someone who has never taken an art class in my life...I didn't think I had an artistic bone in my body and never thought of myself as creative." Neat book art made with folds and an exacto knife from Isaac Salazar, who, according to his Flickr bio, is an accountant in New Mexico.

The Coolest Locksmith Shop in New York City "From a distance, it looks like a bunch of golden squiggles and spirals have been added, snaking whimsically across the facade. But get a little closer and you’ll find the real magic… The new design is made up entirely of keys, literally thousands, and thousands, and thousands of keys, twisting into wonderful assortment of swoops and twirls."

Mash-Up: Cat in the Hat / Doctor Who
I read a recent criticism of the Moffat-era of Doctor Who being a glorified version of The Cat in the Hat, to which I couldn't help but think...well...."duh".(Though we all know that the Eleventh Doctor is more Peter Pan than anything else, in case all the off-the-cuff remarks about fairytales and not growing up got lost in the bits where an eternally-youthful weirdo shows up to whisk a pajama-clad heroine to a realm where time has no meaning....)

Crafts: Tardis Quilt
Tardis Quilt by Craftster user Gatheredthreads
I made two of these pretties. One for sloth003 in the stocking swap, and one for my DH's community workshop classroom.
The technique I settled on was to choose the fabrics for the ground, water, and sky, scan them in to the computer, and piece them there for the background. Then I created the tardis graphic and the building, then printed it on fabric with Bubble Jet Set.
Then the quilt has an LED embedded in it that fades in and out behind the beacon (it's brighter in person).
