I used McCall's pattern 5977. And even though I sew a lot I think this is a really manageable pattern for most sewing folk. I must warn you though that I don't really follow most patterns. For this one I did not even bother to read the directions because it made sense to me how it would go together from the pieces, so I can't say if they are particularly clear.
